MONROVIA, July 30 (LINA)-The Minister of Health and Social Welfare has frowned on health workers in the country who refuse to adhere to the universal precaution in treating Ebola patients.

Dr. Walter Gwenigale warned health workers in this habit to at all times abide by the universally accepted precaution method in treating their patients.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Dr. Gwenigale sounded the warning on Tuesday, July 29 at his ministry, when he gave an update on the Ebola virus in Liberia.

He urged health workers and health facilities not to reject suspected Ebola patients, saying, “you are the only hope for now.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Gwenigale has reiterated that his Ministry and its international partners have stepped up efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

He said the efforts include; training and sensitizing health workers and the provision of protective materials to all health workers and medical institutions in the country.

Minister Gwenigale disclosed that 500 health institutions in rural and urban Montserrado County have been targeted, saying that out of this number, 250 have already been reached.

He further disclosed that the ministry has trained health workers ranging from MDs, PAs, RN, CMs and support staff as well as cleaners and securities on how to cater to suspected cases of Ebola.

’’The Ministry of Health and its international partners have also provided protective materials like gloves, disposable gowns, chlorine and other assorted health related materials,’’ Dr. Gwenigale said.
