Liberia National Red Cross Society Joins Fight Ebola

MONROVIA, July 29 (LINA)-The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has joined other humanitarian organizations in the fight to contain the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country and urging Liberians to observe preventive measures in order to stop its spread.

The President of LNRCS, Mr. Fayiah Tamba, attributed the increasing number of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases to failure of people to observe preventive measures announced on radios, televisions, mobile phones and published in newspapers by the Ministry of Health.

He said the current rapid increase in the spread of the disease and the number of infections requires increased efforts to prevent its spread, especially in remote places that lack materials to handle Ebola cases.

Mr. Tamba warned against denial saying, “This definitely undermines every effort towards containing the disease.”

The head of the local Red Cross made the call Tuesday on UNMIL radio in the capital, Monrovia.

Mr. Tamba observed that the fear of people to go around sick relatives experiencing even mild fever is increasing suspected Ebola death cases in the country.
