Obasanjo Farm Distributes 10,000 Chicks To Cape Mount Citizens

By D. Ignatius Roberts, Grand Cape Mount County Correspondent

ROBBERTSPORT, July 26 (LINA)-The Management of Obasanjo Farm in Grand Cape Mount County has distributed 10,000 chicks free of charge to citizens of the county.

This was disclosed by the farm manager, Dr. Ayudele Otufowora Wednesday, when the county Assistant Superintendent for Development, Tenneh Simpson Kpedebah, paid a surprise visit to the farm.

Dr.  Otufowora said his management has decided to  distribute the cockerel chicks free of charge to the citizens as a way of empowering them to be self-sufficient in the production of poultry products.

He said the distribution of the chicks to the people of Grand Cape Mount County marked the first in a series of donations earmarked by the company.

Dr. Otufowora also told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) Grand Cape Mount County correspondent that the program will shortly cover the five districts of the county, Tewor, Garwula, Gola Konneh, Commonwealth and Porkpa and even to other counties.

According to him, currently the management is involved in the sale of  day-old pullet chicks and day-old broiler chicks to the public.

He explained that besides paying Government taxes and meeting its social obligation to the citizens, the management will provide training for people in the poultry sector.

He said the time has come for Liberians to invest in the poultry industry  to enable them produce poultry products to meet the demand of the people.

Earlier, Superintendent Kpedebah lauded the management for its farsightedness in providing chicks to citizens free of charge, noting that this will help them improve their businesses and build their financial capacities.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Superintendant has urged local officials to formulate strategies that will encourage the farm management to continue to do business in Liberia.
