MONROVIA, July 24 (LINA) –A 23 year-old resident of Carey Street in central Monrovia has been arrested by the Liberia National Police and charged with murder.

According to the  police charge sheet, Defendant Emmanuel Paylah, in violation of chapter 14 section 14.1of the revised Penal Code of the Republic of Liberia, purposely, knowingly and intentionally stabbed Ali Fawaz  several times in the chest and back on July 15, 2014 on Carey Street resulting to his death.

The police charged sheet quoted information received on July 15 as saying that victim Ali Fawaz, an electrician, was connecting wires for the purpose of providing electricity when defendant Paylah came from a night club and met him.

An argument ensued between them and degenerated into violence. Defendant Paylah then started chasing Fawaz.

While trying to escape from Paylah, Fawaz is said to have dropped the screw driver he was using, which Paylah picked up and stabbed him several times.

Fawaz was then rushed to the John Kennedy Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The victim’s body has been taken to the AB Anderson funeral parlors for preservation.

During preliminary hearing at the Monrovia City Court, defendant Emmanuel Paylah admitted committing the act, but said it was the work of the devil.

He has been remanded at the Monrovia Central Prison pending trial.
