By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe

MONROVIA, July 24 (LINA)-The Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), Lewis Brown, has described as fruitful and important the oil meeting which was held Thursday between the House of Representatives, the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) and the Executive Branch of Government.

Minister Browne asserted that the meeting put the Government of Liberia in the best position to determine what is best for the country and its people regarding the operations of the oil company.

According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), the Minister made the statement immediately after the meeting in an interview with Legislative Reporters at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.

The Information Minister who declined to provide detailed information on the outcome of the meeting, said it was intended to brief the Lawmakers on the operations of NOCAL with the hope of enabling the company to effectively carry out its mandate.

The Information Minister noted that the meeting was held in the spirit of togetherness and coordination between the Executive and Legislative branches of Government.

The meeting was held in an Executive Session ordered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Alexander Tyler.

It can be recalled that LINA reported on Wednesday, July 23 that Members of the House of Representatives had agreed to meet with the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) and the Ministry of Finance in order to discuss the newly prepared work plan for the Oil Sector of Liberia.

The Lawmakers reached the agreement during  Tuesday’s Session following the reading of a communication dated July 22, 2014  signed by President Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf, requesting them to allow representatives of NOCAL and the Finance Ministry to meet with them, so as to obtain their views and guidance on the plan.
