By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe

MONROVIA, July 24 (ILINA)-The House of Representatives has adjourned to participate in events marking the observance of Liberia ‘s 167th Independence  Celebration on July 26.

House Speaker J. Alexander Tyler announced the adjournment in session on Thursday, July 24 after Representative Gabriel Nyenkan of Montserrado County made a motion for adjournment.

According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), Speaker Tyler said the Lawmakers will return to Session on August 7, 2014.

In another development, Speaker Tyler has disclosed that the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) and the Ministry of Finance have presented copies of the newly prepared work plan for the Oil Sector of Liberia to the House of Representatives.

He said NOCAL and the Finance Ministry made the presentation during a meeting on Thursday, July 24, 2014 in an Executive Session of the House.

The Speaker declined to tell Legislative Reporters the specifics of NOCAL’s newly prepared oil work plan when he was quizzed after the meeting on grounds that he has not read the document.

He however, assured that the House of Representatives will make its position known on the newly prepared oil work plan after Lawmakers shall have perused and scrutinized it.

The Lawmakers had agreed to meet with NOCAL and the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday in Session following the reading of a communication dated July 22, 2014 signed by President Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf, requesting them to allow representatives of NOCAL and the Finance Ministry to meet with them, so as to obtain their views and guidance on the plan.

Johnson-Sirleaf in the letter said,” In a continuing effort to promote operations in petroleum exploration, the National Oil Company of Liberia has prepared a work plan that proposes the way forward toward the achievement of this goal”.
