House Passes Act To Establish Technical College In Nimba

By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe

MONROVIA, July 23 (LINA) -The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed an Act to establish a Vocational and Technical College in Ganta, Nimba County and sent it to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.

When established, the institution will be called the “Ganta Vocational and Technical College” and will serve a population of about 74,000 people.

According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), the Act introduced by Nimba County District #1 Representative, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, was based on a report submitted to Plenary by the House’s Joint Committee on Education, Ways & Means and Judiciary after a two-week scrutiny.

The Committee noted in the report that the establishment of the college will buttress Government’s efforts to train middle and higher level technicians to increase Liberia’s human resource capacity.

It also believes that the establishment of such college will go a long way in creating youth empowerment, thereby reducing poverty, which is one of the challenges facing by the Government of Liberia. .
