By Johnson Liway, LINA Grand Bassa County Correspondent

BUCHANAN, July 20 (LINA) - The County Health Officer (CHO) of Grand Bassa and Chairman of the County Ebola Task Force, Dr. Joseph Kerkula, wants citizens adopt a serious approach to the Ebola disease to prevent it from spreading in the county.

He said as at July 17, some 105 persons had died from the Ebola virus in
four counties.

He named the counties as Montserrado, Lofa, Margibi and Bomi.

Kerkula told citizens of Bassa at the launch of the Ebola Task Force in Buchanan on Friday that from July 1 to present, there has been an increase in Ebola cases.

He said to contain the virus there was need for citizens to minimize the proliferation of health care settings and to strengthen coordination and the response building capacity of civilians.

He explained that social mobilization and awareness at county, district and community levels is essential because “one challenge faced by this government is citizens’ denial at the onset of the outbreak in Liberia.”

The Ebola Task Force comprises  the Superintendent, Development Superintendent, local county authorities, district health officers, Dr. Emmanuel Pajebo, Chief Medical Officer at the Liberia Government Hospital in Buchanan, youth caucus, Arcelor Mittal Liberia, UNMIL, Concern World Wide, community representatives and s four-man case management team from the county health office.

The Ebola Task Force was structured on July 16 through consultative meetings held among the county leadership, county health office, Zone leaders and governors of the county.
