Pres. Sirleaf Sets Up Task Force on Vocational Education

MONROVIA, Jan 16 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has constituted a Ministerial Task Force on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), in line with a series of actions put into place to commence reform of the sector.

According to an Executive Mansion press release, those selected are: the Minister of Youth & Sports, Chairman and Minister of Education, Vice Chair; with the Ministers of Finance, Agriculture, Labor, Commerce & Industry and Gender & Development as members.

The press release said upon its selection, the Ministerial Task Force will convene a National Stakeholders Forum in January to adopt a National Action Plan for Youth Capacity Development and Employment.

It will also review, validate and approve a Draft National TVET Policy for submission to the Cabinet for endorsement.

Among other activities, the Task Force will review and approve a UNESCO work plan to finalize a national TVET assessment survey that will map TVET institutions and their capacities to enable curriculum development and review.

Another key objective of the Task Force will be to host a National Youth Capacity Development and Employment Financing Conference, to harmonize and align existing funding to the National Action Plan, avoid duplication from partners and source additional funding to ensure implementation of targeted activities.

The Task Force will commence its work immediately, according to the release.
