ROBERTSPORT, July 18 (LINA) -The Land Commission has launched a tribal land certificate inventory project in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County to facilitate tribal land registration with the commission.
The program held at the Robertsport City Hall Friday will also position the Land Commission to put under control the numerous land conflicts in the country, according to the Liberia News Agency.
Speaking at the launch of the project, the Acting Land Commissioner, Walter Wisner, said there are some people in Liberia with more than 250,000 acres of land that are on land certificates but never registered them.
Wisner called on those concerned to take advantage of the program and register their land so as to avoid future embarrassment.
He said there is a dire need for the total involvement of paramount, clan and town chiefs as well as county superintendents, district commissioners and other local leaders in the new project in order to help resolve land disputes in the country.
He disclosed that the commission has submitted a land reform bill to the National Legislature so that those who are in the habit of re-selling land to more than five persons will be dealt with in accordance with law.
