Sime Darby Launch US$10m Palm Oil Plant

ROBERTSPORT, July 17 (LINA) -The management of Sime Draby Plantations Liberia (SDPL) has broken grounds for the construction of a US$10 million palm oil factory in Garwula District, Grand Cape Mount County. 

The SDPL Deputy General Manager Rosli Mohammed Taib said the decision to construct the mill was in fulfillment of the agreement the company signed with the Liberia Government in 2010.

According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), Taib made the statement Wednesday at the plantation’s main office during the official ground-breaking ceremony for the plant.

He said when completed, the factory will provide job opportunities for citizens of Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbarpolu counties as well as others from parts of the country.

Meanwhile, according to Taib, the management has finalized plans to construct mini-mills in areas where the company will have over 100,000 hectares of oil palm, adding that the management is considering acquiring more land in order to expand their operations in Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbarpolu counties.

In separate remarks at the ceremony, Grand Cape Mount County Senator Abel Massaley, Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly and Grand Cape Mount County Superintendent Mohammed Paasewe expressed gratitude to Sime Darby for bringing to reality their dream of constructing the plant.

The three officials pledged Government’s continuous support to the management for projects undertaken in the supreme interest of the Liberian people.
