Damaged ArcelorMittal Bridge Reopened To Traffic

By Wellington Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, July 18 (LINA) -The 45-foot River Bee Bridge connecting Sanniquellie to Yekepa and Karnplay in Nimba County that was recently set ablaze by rioters has been reopened to normal traffic.

The bridge, which was re-opened on Wednesday, was one of several property damaged during the July 3 riot that damaged assets belonging to ArcelorMittal and the Liberian Government.

A press release issued on Friday and signed by the Assistant Superintendent for Development, Teeko Tozay Yorlay, said the destruction of the bridge posed serious problems to local, national and international traders.

It said ArcelorMittal in collaboration with the County Administration completed rehabilitation work on the bridge and reopened it to public transportation on Wednesday, July 16.

The press release did not disclose the cost of the rehabilitation work.

Meanwhile, Mr. Yorlay has called on citizens of Nimba County to refrain from violence and engage in constructive engagement to seek solutions to problems.
