By Emmanuel Mondaye, LINA Gbarpolu County Correspondent

BOPOLU CITY, July 15 (LINA) - Police in Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County, have arrested and detained a 40-year-old handicapped man at the Bopolu Central Prison for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Sunny-Boy Wannie allegedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim, whose name is being withheld, on two separate occasions.

Police record indicated that on one occasion, Wannie allegedly raped the girl while her mother, Nabro Sackiemoore, was visiting some family members in Henry's Town in Gbarpolu County.

He allegedly raped the girl on another occasion when she spent the night at his house in a nearby village where she had gone to buy and sell some goods.

According to the police record, the suspect initially denied having sex with the minor and requested the victim’s parents to conduct a medical examination to establish whether or not the victim was sexually tampered with.

Results from the medical examination proved positive and indicated that the girl was already three months pregnant, according to the police record.

The report revealed that the victim’s mother also told investigators that after Wannie allegedly carried out the act, he threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone about what had transpired between them.

Meanwhile, Wannie is awaiting trial at the 16th Judicial Circuit Court in Bopolu.
