Nimba, Gedeh To Hold Reconciliation Confab
By Wellington Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, July 14 (LINA) - Chiefs and Elders across Nimba County have resolved to host a reconciliation conference between citizens of Grand Gedeh and Nimba counties from July 19-24 in Toweh Town, Nimba County.

The more than 100 chiefs reached the decision on Friday, July 11, in Saclepea where they had gathered to take major decisions on peace and development in the county.

The planned reconciliatory conference is expected to bring together 150 chiefs and elders, including the Legislative Caucuses and Superintendents of both counties.

The Acting Paramount Chief of Kwilah Chiefdom, Boe Kwilah Administrative District, Franklin G. Toweh, who is also Co-Chairman of the Chiefs and Elders Council of Nimba, told the Liberia News Agency over the weekend that the conference is intended to consolidate the longstanding traditional ties between the two counties.

He said during the five-day conference, a traditional treaty or memorandum of understanding will be signed by leaders of the Chiefs and Elders Councils of the two neighboring counties.

The Chairman of the Nimba branch of the National Traditional Council of Liberia, Peter Gbaloun, emphasized the importance of the conference during which, he said, a major traditional covenant of peace, trade and development will be reached.
