Gbarnga Prison Boss Applauds Gov’t For Bus
By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent
GBARNGA, July 10 (LINA) - The Superintendent of the Gbarnga Central Prison, Feshell A. Dean, has lauded the Liberian Government for the provision of a mini prison bus to the institution.
He said the bus has brought relief to the facility as it will henceforth be easy to convey inmates to court, hospital and other places.
In an apparent bid to improve prison facilities in the country, Government on Monday, July 7, through the Justice Ministry, provided a mini prison bus to the Gbarnga Central Prison.
The prison Superintendent promised to ensure the effective use and proper maintenance of the vehicle.
The Gbarnga Central Prison currently has 130 inmates with less than 10 females, three of whom are convicts, Superintendent Dean told the Liberia News Agency Wednesday in an interview at his prison office.
He lauded improvements at the prison facility under the Regional Hub project but stressed the need for vocational training for inmates which, he said, will help transform their lives for a brighter future.
“We need to turn this place into a training camp where inmates will become marketable upon their release from detention,” Dean added.
He recommended that the facility be part of the county and social development fund to enable it respond to the needs of inmates.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Dean is recommending the permanent assignment of a nurse to the prison’s clinic, increase in the manpower of correction officers and construction of a well that will supply adequate water to inmates as the existing one runs out of water during the dry season.
