Pres. Sirleaf Says Rioters To Face Full Weight Of The Law

By Richard Stephens

MONROVIA July 10 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has said that individuals behind the recent riots in the concession area of ArcelorMittal in Yekepa,  Nimba County will face the full weight of the law.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the Liberian Chief Executive made the statement in a nationwide broadcast from her office in the Foreign Ministry building on Thursday.

The Liberian leader emphasized that her government will not condone any act of vandalism, considering that the country is recuperating from a 14-year civil war.

President Sirleaf added that those responsible for the massive destruction wreaked during the riot will be prosecuted by the courts shortly.

Recently, 41 persons were arrested and charged with multiple crimes by the Sanniquellie Magisterial Court in Nimba Court.

The rioters were arrested in connection with a violent protest in Tokadi in Nimba County which left property worth millions of dollars damaged.

The protesters had taken to the streets in demand of benefits they claimed were owed them by the Arcelor Mittal management.
