By Ballah Kollie, LINA, Bong County Correspondent
GBARNGA, July 8 (LINA) - Authorities of Bong County have condemned the growing wave of armed robbery in the county’s provincial capital Gbarnga.
The condemnation comes in the wake of four incidences of armed robbery in less than two weeks, the most recent being the Wednesday, July 2 robbery at the Cellcom Store on Gbarnga Broad Street where the robbers made away with several valuables.
Speaking to the Liberia News Agency following a consultative meeting with stakeholders, Bong County Development Superintendent Anthony Sheriff said zonal heads of the city’s 19 communities and those of the security apparatus have been commissioned to strategize on ways to curb the menace.
According to him, the setting up of community watch teams and other security measures are inevitable in the fight against criminals who victimize peaceful citizens.
The measure will also include the enforcement of the 10 p.m. regulation banning motorcyclists from plying the streets by the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Ministry of Transport.
Prior to the Cellcom Store robbery, a dealer of groundnuts identified only as Flomo and another home were all stripped of their belongings in the Executive Drive community in Gbarnga.
