By Richard Baysah, LINA Margibi County Correspondent

KAKATA, July 6 (LINA) -A detainee at the Kakata Police cell has reportedly committed suicide while awaiting police interrogation.

The deceased, identified as Amos Tamba, is believed to be in his forties.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the late Tamba, a local electrician, was arrested and detained for preliminary investigation by the police on Wednesday, July 2, following a complaint filed by a local businessman for alleged theft of a ladder.

While under detention, the deceased was on Friday, July 4, discovered hanging in the holding cell at the headquarters of the Liberia National Police in Kakata.

When contacted, police authorities in Margibi County refused to comment on the alleged suicide on grounds that they are not sanctioned to speak to reporters on the matter.

Meanwhile, the body of the late Tamba was turned over to his family for burial after examination by the police and doctors at the C. H. Rennie Memorial Hospital in Kakata.

Doctors at the hospital said he died as a result of strangulation from hanging.
