Court Frees 10 From Voinjama Prison

By Korboi Gbelewala, LINA Lofa County Correspondent

VOINJAMA, July 3 (LINA) -The 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Voinjama, Lofa County, has released 10 detainees from the Voinjama Central Prison.

Judge William B. Sando said those released were placed behind bars for various crimes, including aggravated assault, rape and theft of property.

He told journalists recently in Voinjama that the release of the inmates is in keeping with Chapter 18 Sections 18.1 and 18.2 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

According to the Liberia News Agency, some of those released by the court had been in detention for up to nine months without trial or court appearance.

The 10 pre-trial detainees were released on June 25.

Announcing the decision, Judge Sando cautioned those released to desist from the acts that took them to prison and reintegrate into society as law-abiding citizens.

Meanwhile, the released detainees have lauded the Liberian Government through the Justice Ministry for their release and vowed to always remain good residents in their communities.
