Cape Mount Farmers To Benefit From Modern Training

ROBERTSPORT, July 3 (LINA) -The Coordinator of the Ministry of Agriculture Grand Cape Mount County  sub-office, Z. Edmord Greaves, has disclosed that the ministry has begun a modern methods training of farmers in the county.

He said the new training will include technology, pest management and use of fertilizers as well as post-harvest and marketing methodologies.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Greaves made the disclosure recently when he held a meeting with farmers, companies and organizations that are engaged in agriculture activities.

He said the training is intended to upgrade the capacity of farmers in the county to enable them produce more food.

The Liberian agriculturalist observed that many farmers in the county are still using archaic farming methods which, he said, are impeding their productivity and encouraging subsistence farming.

Meanwhile, Greaves has disclosed that the ministry is also involved in distribution of seed rice to farmers in the county, mainly in Gola Konneh, Tewor, Porkpa and Garwula districts.

He called on the farmers to include vegetable production in their farming activities, in addition to cassava and rice.

He is, however, concerned about improving the roads in the county to enable farmers transport their produce to market to build their financial capacity.
