Massaley Wants WAEC Pass For Direct University Entry
By D. Ignatius Roberts, Grand Cape Mount Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, July 1 (LINA) -Grand Cape Mount County Senator Abel Massaley is calling on education authorities to use the West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate as a yardstick for direct entry of high school graduates into universities.

Senator Massaley made the call Sunday in Robertsport when he served as keynote speaker at the graduation program of the Robertsport High School.

He said any student who has the WAEC certificate should enter any higher institution of learning in the country without taking entrance and placement examinations.

The lawmaker said since the government is using the WAEC certificate as a requirement for graduation from high school, the same yardstick should be used as qualification for students to enter universities and colleges.

He stressed the need for the Education Ministry to formulate programs that will promote sound and quality education in the country.

Meanwhile, the Grand Cape Mount County Senator has frowned on the Ministry of Education for permitting schools to hold graduation programs before the release of the WAEC results.

Senator Massaley explained that graduation before the release of WAEC results has the propensity to undermine the learning process in the country.

At the same time, Senator Massaly has challenged the graduates to pursue higher education so as to adequately prepare themselves to become productive, effective and responsible future leaders.

Earlier, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Musu Dennis, called on the Government to fence the school to prevent students going to school late or leaving the campus without permission.

She challenged students to be disciplined at all times, saying that next academic year any student caught engaging in indiscipline would be punished in accordance with the school’s hand book.
