Senator Taylor Gives Cash, Scholarships to Gbarnga Students
By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, June 27 (LINA) – Bong County Senator Jewel Howard Taylor has announced a total of L$16,900 in cash and scholarship awards to three students of the St. Mark Lutheran High School in Gbarnga,  the provincial capital, beginning the 2014/2015 academic year.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Senator Taylor gave the awards when she served as guest speaker at the 14th commencement convocation of 12th graders and closing exercises of the St. Mark Lutheran High School on Thursday.

To the dux of the graduating class, the Senator offered L$10,000 in cash and four years scholarship to attend the Bong County Technical College (BCTC), L$5,000 went to the dux of the school and a scholarship to 12th grade and L$1,900 to the dux of the kindergarten class and a scholarship up to the 12th grade.

Taylor told the graduating students to take advantage of the available opportunities afforded them and drink from the fountain of knowledge that sits at the feet of teachers, whom she described as “God’s special angels training and teaching lessons that alert people on how to avoid life’s mistakes and pitfalls.”

She said despite the sacrificial services rendered by teachers, they are often mocked, but noted that unless one reaches a crisis point they will not know that the knowledge imparted into them sets the basis for success or failures.

She noted there were always difficulties in becoming a successful person and cautioned graduates to endure the challenges and never waver in their quest to acquire knowledge.
