Court Gives Man 5 Years For Criminal Facilitation

By Comfort Johnson, Intern

MONROVIA, Jan 15 (LINA) -The Criminal Court “D” at the Temple of Justice has sentenced David Safrano to five years imprisonment for criminal facilitation of terrorism against private prosecutrix Madam Christiana Andrainpoulos.

The Court said the sentence excludes the one year Safrano has already spent at the Monrovia Central Prison.

In his ruling Tuesday, Criminal Court ”D” Judge Yusuf Kaba said it was consistent with law that issues of facts should be decided by the trial jury in a case heard by the court with the aid of a jury.

It can be recalled that on September 23, 2012, David Safrano and three others reportedly at large, criminally obtained the travel itinerary of Madam Andrainpoulos and traced her movement, leaving them to kidnap her.

According to the report, they took her to a leased building instead of the hotel she was to go to and subjected her to humiliation and torture.

Safrano was arrested by officers of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of the Liberia National Police at the Roberts International Airport, while the others escaped the police dragnet.
