By David Seedee, LINA Bomi County Correspondent

TUBMANBURG, June 22 (LINA) - The Trail Jury of the 11th Judicial Circuit Court in Bomi County has unanimously rendered a 'not guilty’ verdict in favor of defendant Williamson Hubbard, who was tried for the crime of rape.

The jury, in their unanimous verdict, said after a careful consideration of the evidence adduced at the trial, they were compelled to declare defendant Hubbard not guilty of the crime of rape, and accordingly acquit him.

Confirming the verdict, Judge James S. Gilayenneh said in keeping with the laws of Liberia and based on the unanimous verdict of the jury, defendant Hubbard had been discharged from further answering to the charge of rape.

Judge Gilayenneh then ordered the release of Hubbard from further detention without delay.

Defendant Hubbard, 52, was on November 26, 2013 arrested in Ticket Town, Bomi County and charged with Statutory Rape by the Tubmanburg Magisterial Court for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.

Rape is a Felony of the First Degree and a Capital Offense under Liberian law.
