County Attorneys Call For Salary Increment
By Richard Stephens
MONROVIA, June 20 (LINA) - The County Attorney of Nimba, Cllr. Hector Quoigoah, has reiterated recent calls by county attorneys across the country for government to increase their salaries.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Cllr. Quoigoah made the call Friday in an interview with journalists on the grounds of the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.
Early this year, during a training session in the port city of Buchanan, the attorneys called on the government to revisit their salaries with the view of upward adjustment.
They complained that the low salary scale was undermining their zeal to adequately function.
The Nimba County Attorney, who is on a visit to Monrovia, said low salaries, could discourage many well-meaning Liberians from serving as County Attorney, noting that the job is full of challenges.
He said while the government was making progress in improving the judicial system, it needed to do more by providing logistics, including vehicles, to County Attorneys around the country to enable them effectively perform their duties.
Cllr. Quoigoah noted that considering the size of Nimba County, the need for a vehicle to enhance the work of the County Attorney in combating crime cannot be overemphasized.
