VOINJAMA, June 19 (LINA) -TETRA TECH Mitigating Land Dispute in Liberia, a US State Department funded Program, has donated logistical supplies to the Lofa County Security Council.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the materials include 17 Honda motorbikes, five Desktop computers, five 2.5kv generators, 12 Hotline/Cellcom desk phone and 70 Hotline/ Cellcom mobile phones.

Others are 125 reflector jackets for night patrols, five solar power systems and 4 Dell S320 projectors and Screens, among other items.

Giving a brief history of the program, Tetra Tech Manager Martin J. Sopp said the project, which has three components, started in November 2011.

Mr. Sopp said objective one seeks to improve and enhance the County Security Council’s ability to resolve security problems, while objective two is intended to establish a community forum as a regular venue for solving security concerns and land disputes.

He said objective three is aimed at empowering the security sector of the county.

According to Mr. Sopp, they have over the years established five structures in Lofa County to serve as an early warning and response mechanism to detect strange security movements in communities.  No cost was attached to the materials.

Making the presentation at the Administration Building in Voinjama Tuesday, the Chief of Party of MLDL Liberia, Dr. Alfred Fofie, said the materials are intended to buttress the Liberian Government’s efforts as it strives to handle land disputes in the county and to improve the security sector of the country.

Receiving the items, Lofa County Superintendent George Donor, who is also chairperson of the County Security Council, lauded the US Government through TETRA TECH for the “timely” gesture.

Superintendent Dunor noted that materials will help enhance the work of security agencies in the county, especially during this election season.

Also speaking on behalf of the joint security, Lofa County Attorney J. Luther Sumo assured that the materials would be used for the intended purpose.

According to Attorney Sumo, the materials will help security agencies in the county to effectively perform their duties.

Meanwhile, Vice President Joseph N. Boikai has lauded the US for the donation of the materials to the Lofa County Security Council, describing it as “a blessing” to Liberia.

According to Vice President Boakai, land disputes and lack of food are some factors that lead to insecurity.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the Liberian Vice President said the US Government’s good work through TETRA TECH in the county cannot go unnoticed, describing it as “timely and great”.
