Pres. Sirleaf Consults on Suspension of Justice Minister

MONROVIA, Jan 14 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf says she has taken note of last week’s decision of the Supreme Court of Liberia placing a six-month suspension on the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Christiana Tah.

According to an Executive Mansion press release, the Liberian leader, however, said she is holding consultations with eminent lawyers and legal professionals, including former Chief Justices and former Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, to fully comprehend the implications of the Supreme Court decision placing the ban on Justice Minister Tah.

The Liberian leader is seeking clarification on the implication of this decision as it relates to the executive powers of the President.

The Supreme Court last Friday placed a six-month ban on Justice Minister Tah for granting “Compassionate Leave” to journalist Rodney Sieh who was detained at the Monrovia Central Prison upon court orders.

Until the Supreme Court’s suspension is lifted, the Justice Minister is barred from practicing law in Liberia.
