Ebola Resurfaces In Foya District
By Korboi Gbelewala, LINA Lofa County Correspondent

VOINJAMA, June 16 (LINA) -The Health Officer of Lofa County, Dr. Aaron Kollie, has reported a fresh outbreak of the Ebola virus in Foya District, Lofa County.

During an Ebola update meeting at the weekend in Voinjama City, Dr. Kollie disclosed that three new cases of the Ebola virus were recorded in Foya District over the past few days.

According to the Liberia News Agency, Dr. Kollie said one of the three cases has been confirmed, while the other two were classified as “suspected cases” and specimens from these cases are undergoing laboratory tests.

The Lofa County health officer pointed out that the two suspected cases have been quarantined under the watchful eyes of health practitioners of Foya District and the entire county.

He indicated that the positive Ebola patient is on supportive treatment at the Foyah Burma Health Center in Foya and is said to be responding to treatment.

The re reappearance of the Ebola virus in the county, according to him, has been attributed to cross-border movements between Liberia and Sierra Leone, where there is presently an outbreak of the virus as well as Guinea, where the first cases of Ebola in Liberia emanated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kollie has appealed to the Liberian Government and health partners to continue the supply of personal protective equipment and supportive drugs for the fight against the Ebola virus in the county.

It can be recalled that ten persons are reported to have died from the virus this year in Liberia.

Also six deaths out of seven cases were reported at the weekend by Deputy Health Minister and Chief Medical Officer of Liberia, Dr. Bernice Dahn.
