Karnplay Decries Delay In Power Distribution

SANNIQUELLIE, June 15 (LINA) -The Mayor of Karnplay in Nimba County, Madam Evelyn Gweh, has expressed concern over delays by the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) Nimba Branch in distributing power to residents of the city.

Mayor Gweh noted that there is a high demand for LEC to speed up work to spur business undertakings in the area.

Gweh said since the Ghanaian electricity company lifted the high tension coil from Loguatuo to Grand Gedeh, the distribution of power in Karnplay has come to a complete stand still, posing economic crisis for business institutions of the city.

She clarified that though her office was not notified about which company is responsible to distribute power in the city, both the Ghanaian and Liberian workforce departed the city, leaving the electrical works dormant.

However, the project officer of LEC in the region, Joseph Leah told the Liberia News Agency via mobile phone from Grand Gedeh on Friday, 13 June th/at the responsible company to distribute and maintain power in the area is LEC.

He added that by Tuesday, 17 June, LEC field workers in teams would embark on power distribution in and around the project region of Nimba County.
