By Wellington Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, June 14 (LINA) -The Superintendent of Gbehlay Geh Statutory District in Nimba County, D. Bartuah Bartuah, has disclosed that a concession in the district has commitment US$44,000 in its 2014 budget as Social Development Fund (SDF) for the district.

Bartuah said based on the commitment, the district has earmarked several projects to be implemented when the fund is disbursed.

He said the projects will be supervised by the concession, Jonah Capital, implemented by qualified contractors and monitored by the district administration.

He named the provision of black boards, chalks, textbooks and teaching materials for 15 public schools in the concession area, renovation of the Garnahglay and Yao Nahlah Public Schools and provision of generators to some academic institutions in the district as some of the projects earmarked by authorities.

The projects also include completion of the Gbei-Vonweay maternal waiting home under construction by the county health team, as well as the purchase of US$2,000 worth of drugs for clinics in the most-affected communities.

He put the total cost of the proposed projects atUS$12,000, noting that citizens of the district are designing other projects to be implemented with the other portion of the SDF.

The SDF is a policy of government under which a concession surrenders a percentage of its annual operational budget to local authorities to support development as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Supt. Bartuah said the first two percent released by Jonah Capital in 2013 was used by the company to grade about 150km of roads from Zehglay-BeoGarnahglay and Beogarnahglay to Yao-Nahlah in District Five of Nimba County.
