VOINJAMA, June 14 (LINA) - Relief organizations have distributed food and non-food items to victims of the May 13, 2014 rainstorm in Voinjama and its environs.
The items, including rice, vegetable oil, soap, blankets, zincs and nails, were distributed to at least 50 family heads hailing from communities that were badly affected by the disaster.
The donors were the National Disaster Relief Commission (NDRC) at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Voinjama City Cooperation (VCC) in collaboration with the Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) Lofa Chapter.
The rainstorm destroyed nearly 400 houses, leaving scores of residents homeless.
Speaking during the distribution recently, NDRC acting Assistant Director Myer Davies said the items represent the Liberian Government’s way of identifying with the disaster victims.
According to the Liberia News Agency, Mr. Davis, on behalf of Government, sympathized with the victims who converged at the head office of the LNRCS Lofa Chapter to receive the items.
Meanwhile, victims of the rainstorm have commended government and the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, as well as individuals and organizations who have contributed meaningfully towards alleviating their plight.
Speaking on behalf of the victims, Old Lady Kormassah Jallah of Telbomai Community in Voinjama City, said the donations were timely and would bring immense relief to victims.
She urged beneficiaries not to sell the items that were donated, but rather use them for the intended purpose.
