GBARNGA, June 12 (LINA) - Bong County Senator Jewel Howard Taylor has lauded President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for fulfilling her promise to institutionalize the memory of Chief Na-Suakoko, a former female chief of repute in Bong County.
Chief Na-Suakoko, born in the 1860s, is among the country’s highly-placed female leaders whose memory the Liberian leader institutionalized through the construction of a women-targeted training center.
Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency Wednesday, Senator Taylor said the dedication of the Chief Suakoko Center for Rural Women Empowerment in Suakoko, Bong County overwhelms her as a representative of the people.
Senator Taylor has, meanwhile, promised to collaborate with the center’s management in soliciting funding from partners and seeking increment in its allotment in the national budget.
President Sirleaf on Monday June 9, dedicated the Chief Suakoko Center for Rural Women Empowerment on the Cuttington University Campus in Suakoko, Bong County.
The center will train women in leadership development, peace building and reconciliation, as well as build their capacities through micro-finance.
