Pneumonia Vaccination Campaign On In Nimba

By Wellington G. Patrick

SANNIQUELLIE, Jan 12 (LINA) -The Child Survival Department of the G.W Harley Hospital through the Nimba County Health Team has launched a pneumonia prevention vaccine for children under one-year in the county.

The campaign kicked off Friday simultaneously at the various clinics in the six health districts of Nimba County.

The County Clinical Supervisor, who served as chief launcher of the campaign, Mr. Karntay Demie, said pneumonia remains the third biggest contributor to child mortality in the country.

According to Mr. Demie, the administration of the pneumonia vaccine will also combat Meningitis, commonly known as stiff neck disease in children.

The Clinical Supervisor said that the project is being sponsored by Africare and the Government of Liberia.

He warned that the pneumonia vaccine has side effects such as ‘fever and swelling around the penetration mark’.

Speaking on behalf of the county administration, the Political Liaison Officer of Nimba, Mr. F. Mohamn Kromah, urged all citizens to take advantage of the vaccination to ensure a healthy future for the young generation.
