CDC Western Region Chairman Resigns

By Robert Dixon

MONROVIA, June 10 (LINA) – A spate of high profile resignations has hit the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), with the latest being the  chairman of its Western Region, Simeon Boima Taylor.

His resignation followed the recent ones by CDC of former chairperson Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff and Senior Senator Joyce Musu Freeman Sumo, both of Montserrado County.

Mr. Taylor resigned following his defeat in the party’s primary held in Grand Bassa County.

Speaking Tuesday to journalists in Monrovia, Taylor said his decision to resign was predicated upon the party’s failure to conduct itself in accordance with the guidelines relative to holding primaries.

Taylor, who headed the party in Bomi, Grand Cape Mount and Gbarpolu counties, claims he was cheated in the just-ended primary in Grand Bassa County in favor of Dr. Foday Kromah who joined the party less than a year ago.

He said the primary was to decide who runs on the party’s ticket in this year's mid-term senatorial election for Grand Cape Mount County.

He said he will not be a party to a process that is marred by fraud and inconsistency.

Meanwhile, when contacted, CDC Secretary General Nathaniel McGill told LINA that a rule in the party requires that any member having grievances should write the party stating them.

He said Taylor has not respected this rule, and encouraged him to abide by the rules of the party.
