LNRCS Donates Relief Items To Storm Victims

By Korboi Gbelewala, LINA Lofa County Correspondent

VOINJAMA, June 10 (LINA) -The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) Lofa Chapter has distributed relief items to victims of the rainstorm that hit Voinjama City and its environs last May.

The items included 100 bundles of zinc, seven cartoons of zinc nails, buckets, blankets, lappers, pots and mats.

According to the Liberia News Agency, 44 persons from at least ten communities in Voinjama City and two surrounding towns in Voinjama District were beneficiaries of the donation.

The beneficiary communities include Telbomai, New life, Lawalazo Road, Kintoma, New Voinjama, Kazza, Bazzi Quarter, Koiwuluni, Jaillah, Logan Town and Zenelormai and Jayanmai towns.

LNRCS Lofa Chairman Joseph Vannie said the materials donated were the Red Cross’s way of identifying with the disaster victims.

Mr. Vannie cautioned beneficiaries to use the materials for the intended purpose and warned against selling them.

He urged other victims who did benefit from the Monday distribution to exercise patience as other donations were forthcoming.

Vannie said those who benefitted from Monday’s distribution were individuals whose houses were badly damaged by the storm.

Speaking earlier, Lofa County Superintendent George S. Dunor commended the LNRCS for the donation and its numerous contributions to the people of Lofa County.

Superintendent Dunor recommended that the Lofa County Disaster Management Committee, Red Cross Lofa Chapter and the media work as a team to ensure transparency and accountability in the relief distribution process.

He disclosed that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and World Health Organization have also donated several items for distribution to the victims.
