HARPER, June 9 (LINA) -The Maryland County branch of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has elected businessman Jimmy Anderson to contest the 2014 Mid-term Senatorial election on the party’s ticket.
At the fourth regional primary held in Harper Sunday, Mr. Anderson defeated his opponent, Pleebo Sorroken District Representative Bhofal Chambers.
According to the Liberia News Agency Maryland County correspondent, Representative Chambers was defeated 28 to 4 votes.
Thirty-two delegates from Sinoe, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Grand Kru and Maryland counties took part in the exercise, which was earlier marred by violence.
Calm was, however, restored after police intervention.
CDC Regional Coordinator Chris Daniels, who conducted the process in the presence of UNMIL, Justice and Peace Commission and the delegates, announced Mr. Anderson winner of the primary.
