Defense Minister Samukai, Delegation Off To Mali

MONROVIA, June 4 (LINA) – Defense Minister Brownie J. Samukai at the head of an eight-man delegation departed the country Wednesday for the West African State of Mali.

According to a Defense Ministry press release issued here Wednesday, Minister Samukai and delegation will participate in the first Medal Parade ceremony for Liberian troops serving in the MINUSMA Mission in Diabali, Mali.

The ceremony will take place on Friday, June 6, in Mali.

While in Mali, Minister Samukai and delegation will also assess the status, conditions and well-being of the troops and hold discussions with Malian authorities on bilateral security cooperation.

The release said the delegation will also hold discussions with MINUSMA authorities on the rotation of Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) troops.

In June 2013, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf ordered that an enhanced Infantry Platoon of the AFL be sent to Mali to form part of the Peacekeeping operations in that troubled country.

The Liberian delegation include Representative George S. Mulbah, Chair of the House Committee on Defense, Intelligence, Security and Veteran Affairs, Brig Gen. Daniel Dee Ziankahn, AFL Chief of Staff, among others.

The Delegation is expected back in the country on Sunday, June 8.
