Former BMC Squatters Commend Gov’t
MONROVIA, Jan 13 (LINA) – Former squatters on the property the erstwhile Bong Mining Company (BMC) in Fuamah District, Bong County have commended the Liberian Government for living up to its promise to pay compensation to evictees.
According to a Ministry of Land Mines and Energy release issued here Monday, 827 family heads received US$500 each.
Speaking on behalf of the squatters, Mr. Pewee Mulbah thanked the Government through the Ministries of Lands, Mines and Energy, Finance and Justice for the resettlement package.
He assured that the people of Bong County, who have always been law-abiding, will always remain in respect of the law.
The squatters’ spokesman also thanked the Management of China Union for the patience they exhibited during the relocation exercise.
The statement comes in the wake of the completion of payment of squatters occupying houses within the former Bong Mining Company Compound in Fuamah District, Bong County by the Liberian Government.
The payment, according to a Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy release, was completed in line with the January 10, 2014 deadline as stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the squatters and the Government of Liberia.
