Sinoe, Grand Kru Roads Upgrade Faces Setback,  Says Coleman
By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe

MONROVIA, May 29(LINA) – Grand Kru County Senator Peter Coleman has disclosed that the rehabilitation of roads leading to Greenville, Sinoe County and Barclayville, Grand Kru County in Southeastern Liberia has come to a standstill.

He attributed the abandonment of the road projects to delays in paying contractors commissioned to do the work.

According to the Liberia News Agency, the Senator made the disclosure Thursday in Session after the reading of two separate communications from Senators H. Dan Marias of Maryland County and Armah Jallah of Gbarpolu County on the status of roads in the country.

He informed his colleagues that the contractors are encountering difficulty getting information from the Ministry of Public Works regarding their payments.

Coleman warned that failure to rehabilitate these roads as soon as possible will negatively impact this year’s Independence Day celebration which will be co-hosted by Sinoe and Grand Kru counties.

“If these roads are not done, with foreign guests and other people coming to our country during the Independence Celebrations, it would bring shame and disgrace to our country,” Coleman observed.

Meanwhile, members of the Liberian Senate have voted overwhelmingly to invite the Minister of Public Works, Antoinette Weeks, to appear before Plenary next week Tuesday to show why she must not be held in contempt for not responding to several communications served her by the Senate.
