By Chris Nyenapee, LINA Grand Gedeh County Correspondent

ZWEDRU CITY, May 27 (LINA) - Superintendent Peter L. Solo has assured authorities of the Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC) that Grand Gedeh County will comply with its guidelines to ensure accountability and transparency.

Superintendent Solo gave the assurance Monday at the official opening of a two-day PPCC workshop and technical training session for county officials held in the Ballroom of the Zwedru City Hall.

The workshop is being held under the theme: “Enhancing Transparency and Authorities' Ability to Prevent Corruption and Ensure Compliance.”

Superintendent Solo hailed the training, which seeks to guide local officials against pitfalls in awarding contracts to bidders in line with the law.

Earlier, the head of the PPCC team, Nathan Bengu, called on participants to consider the sitting as an interactive forum designed to share what they already know about procurement and laws regarding public procurement in the country.

Mr. Bengu stressed that non-compliance with PPCC guidelines could land violators five-year imprisonment, payment of up to US$1,000 fine or both depending on the gravity of the offence

Topics include ‘Compliance requirement of PPCC laws’, ‘Threshold for contract award’, ‘Advertisement for bidders to compete’, ‘Record keeping’ and ‘Category of approval levels for the head, committee,’ among others.

About 20 representatives and heads of government agencies and public corporations in Grand Gedeh County, including the Ministry of Health, County Project Management Committee, Ministry of Education, Gedeh Community College, County Development Superintendent and others led by Superintendent Solo, are attending the workshop..

Bengu told LINA that the technical sessions for local authorities run up to June 10 this year with Sinoe, Nimba, Bong and Bomi counties lined up during the period.

The workshop is being sponsored by a U.N. Development Program project.
