ROBERTSPORT, May 27 (LINA) – Eleven candidates have declared their intentions thus far to contest the 2014 Mid-term Senatorial Election for Grand Cape Mount County.
This was disclosed by one of the candidates, ex-Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy, Dr. Eugene Shannon, in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Robertsport at the weekend.
According to Dr. Shannon, the contenders for the October polls are former Representatives Mohammed Ware and Matthew Diablo, as well as former senator James Momo and former Lands, Mines and Energy minister, Dr. Fodee Kromah.
The rest are incumbent Senator Abel Massaley, the ruling Unity Party (UP) Chairman, Counselor Varney Sherman, Simeon Taylor, Journalist Roland Perry, Rita Kandakai and Joseph Segbo.
Dr. Shannon said it is the constitutional right of any individual who meets the guidelines of the National Election Commission to contest, but observed that that person must have the interest of the people at heart.
He called on the citizens of Grand Cape Mount County to refrain from voting on the basis of favoritism, sectionalism, religious or political affiliation so that the right person will represent them in the Legislature.
