Nimieh, Gbololu Smoke Peace Pipe
By John Brolpeh, LINA Maryland County Correspondent
HARPER, May 26 (LINA) - Authorities of Maryland and Grand Kru counties have restored peace between the peoples of Gbololu in Maryland County and Nimieh in Grand Kru County.
The two border towns in southeastern Liberia have been at loggerheads since April this year, following the killing of 19-year-old Peter Russell of Gbololu.
Russell was killed by 35-year-old Wilson Gedeh of Nimieh during a fight between the pair sparked by an exchange of jokes.
According to reports, the people of Nimieh at first reportedly failed to apologize traditionally to the people of Gbololu for the incident.
However, at the weekend, the two towns smoked the piece pipe, following the intervention of authorities of both counties, including their joint security agencies.
Meanwhile, the people of Gbololu in Pleebo, Sodoken District through their spokesman, Mr. Thomas Nyema, have commended both county authorities for their intervention and promised to henceforth co-exist peacefully with their neighbors.
