Engineer Raises Red Flag Over Highway Crushed Rocks
By Richard Baysah, LINA Margibi County Correspondent

KAKATA, May 25 (LINA) - The Resident Public Works Engineer of Margibi County, Sysverter Zoker, is concerned about the continuous removal of crushed rocks along paved roads in Margibi County.

Mr. Zoker told the Liberia News Agency in Kakata Friday that he has on many occasions confiscated shovels, wheelbarrows and other materials from residents caught in the act to discourage them to no avail.

Mr. Zoker said the crushed rocks are meant to provide a strong base to the paved road, giving it a long life span, noting that their removal by unscrupulous individuals could lessen its duration.

Meanwhile, reconstruction of the trans-national highway that runs from Monrovia to Gbarnga is nearing Kakata City in Margibi County.

The reconstruction of the highway is currently underway with funding from the World Bank.

The road reconstruction is a ten-year project, with three years of construction work and seven years of maintenance by the contracting company, the Chinese firm China International Construction Company, CICO.
