Bong County Development Superintendent Anthony Sheriff
Illegal Squatters Face Eviction From Market Land
By Ballah Kollie, LINA Bong County Correspondent
MONROVIA, May 21 (LINA) – Bong County Development Superintendent Anthony Sheriff has vowed to demolish all structures illegally erected on the parcel of land earmarked to construct the Gbarnga Central Market.
The warning comes in the wake of the construction of several illegal structures on the parcel of land given by county authorities to the Gbarnga Central Market leaders to build a modern market.
He said though construction work on the market has been halted by the Sirleaf Market Women Project due to funding gap, it does not give anyone the right to occupy the land illegally.
Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency via mobile phone Wednesday, Sheriff described those selling portion of the market’s 4.4 acres of land as “criminals”, and warned citizens against doing business with them.
The President Sirleaf Market Women Project has over the years rehabilitated and built several markets, including the Bardnesville, Jorkpentown and Red-light markets.
