Zwedru Public Latrines Underway
By Chris Nyenapee, LINA Grand Gedeh Correspondent
Zwedru City, May 18 (LINA) - Grand Gedeh County development superintendent, Abraham T. Gbeway, has said the location of public latrines at strategy points in Zwedru is ‘a trial for future project planning.’
He said the way the facilities will be used when completed will help shape decision- makers’ plan on the way forward.
Gbeway’s remarks come after an inspection tour of the latrine project and in the wake of concerns and inquiries from the public on the criteria used to select sites for the latrines under construction.
The inspection showed completion of four eight-seated and two ten-seated latrines respectively.
Also speaking, Liberia Water and Sewer (LWSC) Resident Engineer, Harrison Paye, told the Liberia News Agency that the construction of septic tanks and walling up of the structures will follow in the next few days of the sanitation program.
He commended the contractors for the quality of their work but regretted delays in some areas due to land problems, which have now been resolved.
About a month ago, the LWSC officially launched a water and sanitation project to construct six latrines and repair three others in Zwedru City over a six month period.
Upon completion of the project, the LWSC will move on to pipe water supply, which is on-going.
The latrines are located at the Youth Center, General Market, Zwedru Multilateral High School, Peace Community at the Kudah Bye-Pass and the Coleman Airfield.
