Public Defender Claims Prison Overcrowded
By D. Ignatius Roberts, LINA Cape Mount Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, May 15 (LINA) - Grand Cape Mount County Public Defender, Attorney Boima Paasewe, has disclosed that the Robertsport prison compound is overcrowded.

He explained that the current prison compound can accommodate only 12 prisoners, but now there are 27 detainees, prompting the over-crowdedness.

Attorney Paasewe made the disclosure at the formal opening of the May Term of Court of the 5th Judicial Circuit Court in Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County recently.

He said the overcrowding of the prison has the potential to cause the outbreak of an epidemic.

He appealed to the Ministry of Justice to do everything in accordance with the law to reduce the over-crowdedness in the interest of the inmates and the rule of law.

He said out of the 27, only one prisoner was transferred from Tubmanburg, Bomi County for unexplained reason.

The Public Defender Paasewe also warned jurors to refrain from any practice that will create a bad image of the court system in the County.
