SAPEC Coordinator Assures Poverty Reduction

TUBMANBURG, May 15 (LINA)  - The Project Coordinator of the Smallholder Agriculture Productivity and Commercialization (SAPEC) project, William K.C. Kawalawu, has assured that the project will help reduce rural poverty and household food insecurity.

Coordinator Kawalawu said it will also increase incomes for small farmers and rural business people with specific attention to women, youth and physically challenged.

Coordinator Kawalawu said the project is designed to be implemented for a five-year period at a total cost of US$54.4 million provided by foreign donors and the Liberian government.

Coordinator Kawalawu made the statement during the launching of SAPEC Project at the Tubmanburg City Hall last Friday when he gave the overview of SAPEC.

He said US$46.5 million was grant from Global Agriculture and Food Security Program, US$6.4 million from the African Development Fund as loan and US$1.5 million from the Government of Liberia as in kind contribution.

Coordinator Kawalawu also revealed that the target beneficiaries will be 25,000 smallholder farmers.

He said the four components of the project were Sustainable Corps Production Intensification, Value Addition and Marketing, Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening and Project Management.
