The SAPEC project valued at US$54.4 million is being launched in 12 of Liberia’s 15 political sub-divisions. Counties not benefitting from the SAPEC Project are Lofa, Nimba and Bong Counties, which are advanced in agriculture.
The Deputy Agriculture Minister for Technical Services, Mr. Sizi Subah, who spoke at the program, said the project is intended to empower local farmers in these counties.
He said the project has been designed to enhance the productivity of local farmers to encourage them to produce more food to enhance their income from agricultural undertakings.
Earlier, Grand Cape Mount County Superintendent Mohammed A. Paasewe, who served as keynote speaker at the launching ceremony, expressed gratitude to authorities of the Agriculture Ministry for their farsightedness in launching a program that will boost agricultural productivity in the county, as well as provide employment opportunities for the citizens.
He urged citizens of county to desist from activities that have the propensity to undermine the effort being made by Government to promote agriculture in the county.
Superintendent Paasewe said his administration is prepared to support any group that engages in meaningful projects in the county.
