Education Official Warns Against Misuse Of School Grants
By D. Ignatius Roberts, LINA Cape Mount Correspondent

ROBERTSPORT, May 7 (LINA) -The Coordinator of School Grants at the Ministry of Education, Emmanuel Diabolo, has warned that any local Education Officer or Principal who misapplies school grants will face the full weight of the law.

He said the grant is intended to enable administrations of schools undertake meaningful projects that will improve the learning processes at institutions.

Diabolo gave the warning Tuesday in Robertsport during remarks he made at the end of a three -day Orientation Workshop for County Education Officers, District Education Officers and professional staff on school grant guidelines, according to the Liberia News Agency.

According to Diabolo, the workshop was intended to educate CEOs, DEOs, and principals on how to utilize school grants in order to avoid corrupt ion and other malpractices.

He said because of the school grants, no school administrator is allowed to collect feeding and other fees from students in the primary, elementary and junior high divisions.

The coordinator also said the grants provide an opportunity for school administrators to carry out renovation projects at their institutions.

He said as decentralization of education is gaining momentum in the country, the Ministry of Education has transitioned to disbursing grants to schools.
