Joke Ends In Murder In Grand Kru County
By John Bropleh
HARPER, May 5 (LINA) -What started as a conversational joke amongst a group of young people in Cofedio, Grand Kru County, last Saturday, ended into a fist fight between two men that left one dead and the other behind bars.
Morrison Gedeh, 35, was arrested and charged with murder by a joint force of the Liberia National Police in Grand Kru and Maryland counties for allegedly killing Peter Russell, 19, during a fist fight.
Maryland County Police Commander, Chief Superintendent David Walker, told the Liberia News Agency in Harper Sunday that the late Russell went to Cofedio Town to visit his unidentified fiancée Saturday when the incident occurred.
According to Walker, the victim and Morrison, who did not know each other, interfaced coincidentally in the town during a group conversation characterized by jokes and laughter on that fateful day.
He said the late Russell pulled a “hard joke” on Morrison that left everyone laughing at him. He said Morrison did not, however, take the joke kindly.
“Morrison complained that he did not like hard jokes, but Russell continued to make fun of him, until he got fed up and jumped into a fight with Russell,” Walker explained.
He said during the fight, Morrison allegedly struck Russell with a piece of wood on his forehead, causing him to collapse.
He said Russell was rushed to a nearby hospital in Grand Kru County for treatment, but was pronounced dead three hours after he was admitted.
Morrison has been remanded in prison awaiting prosecution.
